Qatar Airways 'to expand Indian network of planes'

India will receive a greater number of services from Qatar airways.

Qatar Airways has announced it will expand its aircraft financing plans by adding to its Indian network.

Earlier this week, the airline confirmed it will increase its frequency of flights by 20 per cent to Indian cities Deli, Cochin and Amritsar.

The new flights began running yesterday (September 1st 2010) and from October 31st there will be additional services on the Doha to Delhi route.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker suggested that the asset financing boost is the result of India being a "very important market" for the airline.

"With these frequency increases in India and six new recently announced upcoming routes, we look forward to further global expansion to even more exciting destinations between October and January 2011," he commented.

Last month, the firm launched its first freighter flights to Chicago in the US, using its new Boeing 777 planes.

The aircraft carries up to 100 tonnes of machinery, textiles, fruits and general cargo.
